One of Dr. Omar bin Sulaiman’s most significant roles was as Deputy Governor of the UAE Central Bank. In this position, he held the rank of a minister in the federal government, highlighting his influence and trust at the highest levels of government. His work at the Central Bank focused on strengthening the country’s financial stability and developing strategies that would promote sustainable economic growth.
One of Dr. Omar bin Sulaiman’s most notable achievements was his role as the first Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Under his leadership, DIFC became the fastest growing financial centre in the world. Not only did it attract international investment, but it also created a favourable environment for the development of institutional finance. As CEO of DIFCA, Dr. Omar has transformed the centre into a key gateway for capital and investment in the region.
Dr. Omar bin Sulaiman was also instrumental in establishing the region’s first international financial exchange, the Dubai International Financial Exchange, which was later renamed NASDAQ Dubai. Under his leadership, the exchange became a vital link in the global financial markets network, providing access to capital and investment for companies around the world.
Prior to his role at DIFC, Dr. Omar headed Dubai Internet City (DIC), where he also served as Chairman of DIC Investments. Here, he made significant contributions to the development of Dubai’s technology sector, transforming the city into one of the region’s leading tech hubs. His vision for digital transformation has helped attract many international IT companies and start-ups.
As a member of the Dubai Economic and Trade Committee, established by the city’s Executive Council, Dr. Omar has been actively involved in shaping the region’s economic policies.
