Omar bin Sulaiman has an impressive academic background that has laid the foundation for his future success. He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Miami, giving him a solid foundation in engineering and management disciplines. He furthered his education by obtaining an MBA in finance from Golden Gate University in California, as well as a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in leadership from the University of Southern California. This unique set of knowledge has enabled him to combine technical skills with management competencies.
Prior to joining DIFC, Omar bin Sulaiman had already established himself as an outstanding leader. He served as CEO of Dubai Internet City, where he helped develop the region’s tech ecosystem. He was also a co-founder of Dubai Knowledge Village, an educational cluster established in 2003 that became an important element of Dubai’s strategy to attract international educational institutions.
In 2004, Bin Sulaiman was appointed CEO of the DIFC Authority, where he proved himself to be a visionary leader. Between 2004 and 2006, he led a number of initiatives aimed at attracting international investors and companies. His efforts were recognized at the highest level, and he soon took up the position of Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE.
One of Omar bin Sulaiman’s most significant achievements was the successful opening of the region’s first international financial exchange, the Dubai International Financial Exchange (now Nasdaq Dubai), in 2005. This event not only strengthened Dubai’s position on the global financial stage, but also demonstrated the region’s ability to adapt to global economic changes.
Under his leadership, DIFC has evolved from an ambitious project into a fully-fledged international financial hub, attracting leading global companies and professionals from various fields. Today, DIFC is home to over 2,000 companies from around the world.
